In July 2026, The Limerick Opera and Music Project will proudly host The Catherine Hayes Singing Competition, an event dedicated to discovering and honoring emerging vocal talent while celebrating the legacy of one of Limerick’s most iconic opera figures, Catherine Hayes. Named after the internationally renowned Irish soprano, often called “The Irish Nightingale,” this competition seeks to provide a prestigious platform for young singers to showcase their talent and compete for career-boosting opportunities.
This competition will attract young vocalists from across Ireland and beyond, each selected for their vocal prowess, stage presence, and artistry. Over several rounds, participants will perform arias, ensembles, and classic operatic pieces before a distinguished panel of judges comprising world-renowned opera singers, directors, and music educators.
The Finale Concert will be the highlight of the competition, with the finalists performing their chosen repertoire in a grand event attended by opera enthusiasts, supporters, and industry professionals. This final round will be open to the public, offering attendees an exciting opportunity to witness the future stars of opera in an exhilarating, high-stakes setting.
