The Limerick Opera Trail Walk

Local historian Sharon Slater took us on an amazingly interesting and informative walk around Limerick city showing us places of interest with an operatic theme. This walk & talk was also linked to our upcoming publication on the history of Limerick Opera which is due for publication soon. We are currently working on the finishing touches of the book. It is an enthralling potted history celebrating the past, present & future Limerick musical talent of this genre.
A publication not to be missed from Sharon Slater & LOF!

This was a free event & we hope to have more of the same in the future

Be sure to order your copy of
River Notes ~ Opera in Limerick
This walk highlights many of the interesting facts in the book.

Operatic Memorabilia Exhibition

The Operatic Memorabilia Exhibition is a captivating journey into the rich history of Limerick’s contribution to the world of opera. This exhibition offers an exclusive look at rare memorabilia from some of the most prestigious opera houses in the world, including Covent Garden and La Scala, which hold significant connections to Limerick-born opera legends Catherine Hayes and Joseph O’Mara.

Visitors will be able to explore a diverse collection of items, including original costumes worn during historic performances, rare musical scores, handwritten letters, and personal photographs of these iconic figures. Each piece on display tells a story, offering a deeper understanding of the lives and accomplishments of the artists who shaped Limerick’s operatic legacy.

The exhibition goes beyond simply showcasing objects—it immerses visitors in the cultural and historical significance of opera, providing an intimate look at the art form’s evolution and how Limerick played a pivotal role in it. From the early days of Catherine Hayes’ rise to international fame as the “Irish Nightingale” to Joseph O’Mara’s celebrated tenor performances, this exhibition honors the city’s long-standing tradition in opera.

Whether you’re an opera aficionado or simply curious about Limerick’s musical heritage, this exhibition offers a rare and enriching experience for all.
